The Gathered Church

Prepare to Praise

"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:28-29

Prayer for the Gathering

Our Father, we acknowledge that we are utterly hopeless apart from Christ. Make us aware of our sin and of our need for redemption, and help us to be quick to repent and steadfast in belief. We praise you for the hope that is ours through Christ and his work on our behalf. We rejoice that you keep us now and will cause us to persevere until we are finally glorified with you in Heaven. Amen.

Reflection: New City Catechism

New City Catechism #1

Q: What is our only hope in life and death?

A: That we are not our own but belong, body and soul, both in life and death,
to God and to our Savior Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship: Romans 14:7-9

"For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living."

Christ Our Hope in Life and Death | Hallelujah, What a Savior | It is Well with My Soul

The Word Preached: 1 Peter 1:1-7

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ: To those chosen, living as exiles dispersed abroad in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, chosen [2] according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient and to be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

A Living Hope
[3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead [4] and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. [5] You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. [6] You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials [7] so that the proven character of your faith—more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
