Let's Build a Bridge
This Sunday evening our Sunday School classes will be holding "Building Bridges" fellowships. Classes will meet for a time of food and fellowship, as well as a brief spiritual feature.
The purpose of the fellowships is to build stronger bridges between class members and to build bridges to persons who are not currently class members.
Invite someone to attend your class fellowship. Here is your opportunity to build a bridge.
There will be no worship service this Sunday evening.
Check It at the Door
When I was pastor of Highland Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, one Sunday I used a life jacket for an illustration during my children’s sermon. The jacket was olive green and had a military look to it.
As I carried the life jacket into the auditorium before the worship service, our church custodian asked me, “What’s that you’ve got? A bulletproof vest?”
That may not be a bad idea in these times. Preachers can’t be too careful, you know.
Baseball and Six flags 2008
All youth are invited to be a part of "Baseball and Six Flags 2008" on August 2-3.
The charter bus will leave at daybreak on Saturday morning, Aug. 2 (The time will be announced later). We'll travel straight to St. Louis with a lunch stop at Lambert's Cafe! We'll watch the Cards and Phillies play on Saturday night followed by music, a devotion, and lights out.
Six Flags on Sunday! Then we'll load the bus and head south. We'll be back late Sunday night. Cost of the trip: $100 plus your eats, etc.
Join us for this last fling before school begins!
Cousins IndyMac, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac
It’s been a bad week for the mortgage banking business. IndyMac, one of the largest banks in the country, has failed because of bad mortgage loans. And those two paragons of stability, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, have had to be propped up by the federal government over the weekend in order to stabilize them.
At the heart of the problem is what mortgage insiders called “liar loans.” These were loans based on false statements about income and bogus paper work. We are now reaping the bitter fruits of the old human tendency not to tell the truth.
